Roll two fair dice. What is the probability the two dice show the same number (a double)?

Six doubles {(1,1),...,(6,6)} out of 36 outcomes: 6/36 = 1/6 ≈ 16.7%. Equivalently, the second die just has to match the first: 1/6.
